MISSION CRITICAL EXPERIENCE

Since 1982, Hood-Patterson & Dewar, Inc. has served mission critical facilities, commercial and industrial customers and government institutions, along with electrical utilities, distribution cooperatives, and municipalities in commissioning, testing, project management, engineering, and maintenance.

HPD is a wholly owned subsidiary of Patterson & Dewar Engineers, an engineering firm that has been in business since 1945. The firm has over 100 employees in offices in Atlanta, GA and Dallas, TX and has worked on projects throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and South America.

"With over 21 years in Data Center construction, expansion and operations, this was yet my first time to witness an actual commissioning firm go through every piece of a new electrical system to test in any type of operational, failure and recovery mode. Hood-Patterson & Dewar is the most impressive Electrical Engineering/Testing firm that I have been associated with. As a Building Manager, after working with Dan Parker and the entire HPD team, I have a greater sense of being comfortable and more relaxed. That is a very nice insurance policy that most managers don't experience."Terry Gurganus, Technical Services Manager - Electrical

Unlike other consultants that perform work as both an MEP design firm and as a commissioning agency, HPD does not compete with the MEP firms for production design work. This positions us as the ideal "third party" agency for truly independent review, testing and commissioning services. We have worked for owners, construction managers and contractors of all disciplines in this third party capacity to successfully commission hundreds of complex facilities in a wide variety of designs with a wide range of equipment. Our "third-party-perspective" provides us a unique understanding of the system operating nuances presented by the different design topologies, and our specialization gives us unique knowledge of equipment performance capabilities and shortcomings across a broad range of manufacturers. We are often called upon by owners, engineers and manufacturers to perform diagnostic investigations to resolve critical-site power, communication, vendor-interface and reliability related problems. In fact, manufacturers have used HPD to assist with start-up of their on-site equipment, and to help perform factory evaluation of new products before their release into the marketplace.

Our commissioning and testing staff consists of registered professional engineers (PE's), degreed engineers and career test technicians who are formally trained in the testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of complex electrical and mechanical systems and components. Each of our eight PE's has at least ten years experience in the testing and commissioning industry, and our engineers and technicians work with and under the guidance of our PE's both in the field and in the office to give us a high standard of consistency, quality and knowledge. We have professional staff certified from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), and several of our technicians and staff are certified electrical infrared thermographers. Other professional affiliations include the InterNational Electrical Testing Association (NETA - affiliate member), the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE), Industry Applications Society (IAS), Power Engineering Society (PES), the 7X24 Exchange and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).
