SMART GROUND™ MULTIMETER
The Smart Ground® Multimeter, or SGM, is a computer controlled multi-function instrument for measuring grounding systems. The SGM was developed by Dr. A.P. Sakis Meliopoulos under the sponsorship of the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI). The data obtained by the meter is processed by the SGM software which filters noise, removes harmonics and signal irregularities, and corrects voltage and transducer errors. The SGM package includes hardware (an SGM source unit and a test/calibration kit), accessory components (voltage and current probes, voltage cables, current return cable, etc.) and software (WinSGM). The SGM software measurement functions include the following:
- Ground Impedance Measurement
- Soil Resistivity Measurement
- Tower Ground Resistance Measurement
- Touch Voltage Measurement
- Step Voltage Measurement
- Ground Mat Impedance Measurement
- Transfer Voltage Measurement
- Low Impedance / Continuity Measurement
- Fall of Potential Method Measurement
- Oscilloscope Function
For details about the SGM functions, please see http://www.ap-concepts.com/win_sgm.htm.
For details regarding the differences between traditional Fall of Potential versus SGM ground impedance testing, please view FOP vs SGM Ground Impedance Tests
Hood-Patterson & Dewar is the sole, worldwide distributor for the SGM. Please contact Lyn Cosby for ordering information: Lcosby@hoodpd.com, office 770-453-1415.
